Howard Wurtzel lives and creates works in Sarasota, FL and Atlanta, GA. In 2000, he moved to Atlanta to be closer to his children and opened studio space in Avondale Estates. Here with a growing focus and great passion he has created vibrant work. His studio practice is diverse as he works in many media including painting, sculpture, and live edge furniture. His process is never preconceived but rather responsive and active as works evolve.

This approach in process is evident when speaking with Wurtzel in his studio. Many projects are born from a beautiful piece of wood, an artifact or a memory. He is primarily self taught and passionate about creative thought and practice. His work as a Freudian psychoanalyst informs his passion for the inner and outer, the formal and feeling. His paintings have been compared conceptually and aesthetically with German expressionists. Introspect showcases some of Wurtzel’s best work from the last 16 years at Red’s Studio.
